Over the last three months Paul Lucas has helped me hugely to do things I didn't think I could do. I have a lot of pain since I have been awaiting a hip operation for more than a year.
Having Parkinson's as well has made my life very difficult but Paul has helped me to do practical things rather than just trying exercises to strengthen muscles. He has also made contact with my GP on a couple of occassions, to help me to get appointments for treatment for a skin condition which may have delayed my hip replacement still further, if it had not been addressed.
Paul is always positive and encouraging and durnig his weekly viist, I find myself able to do far more than I could believe I was capable of when I am trying to master exercises alone.

My husband had many physiotherapy sessions with Paul at home during this past year. My Husband is 80 years old and suffered a severe stroke 13 years ago, which resulted in loss of use in his right arm and very limited mobility. He also has Aphasia.
However, he has been able to continue walking at home with the aid of a tripod stick. Paul's help and advice has enabled him to gain more confidence when walking. As my Husband had difficulty in getting from the living room down to the garden, Paul recommended a portable step with 2 support handles, which is now in position and my Husband is able to use it with confidence.
Paul has a kind and friendly personality and we have appreciated the thought and ideas he has brought to each physio session.

My husband had a stroke in December 2018 which paralysed the right hand side of his body and left him confined to a wheelchair.
Paul has helped him to achieve a level of mobility which has given him the confidence to transfer from his wheelchair to our car, the stairlift and his armchair safely. He has enabled him to stand and walk a short distance.
Paul is always encouraging and uses different techniques and equipment in his sessions to vary the exercises.
Since resuming his visits after the Covid 19 restrictions were lifted he has always followed the guidelines and worn full PPE equipment for his and our safety. We would recommend Paul to anyone, especially those with mobility and balance problems.

My mother recently had a fall that resulted in a hip replacement and a couple of months of hospital admission. She was very weak upon discharge and the experience had knocked her confidence. We contacted Paul due to his expertise around fall prevention and knowledge of patients who have suffered strokes, which my mother has. Through a number of weekly sessions he was able to guide my mother with advice, encouragement and instruction toward gaining confidence and achieving the goals she set out during his first assessment. We would thoroughly recommend Paul.

My wife and I thought Paul was very professional, capable and knowledgeable in the care of my mother.
He really took his time, encouraging her to try all the exercises needed in lieu of her aged related disabilities.
She responded very well to him, especially to his caring manner and the way that he took his time to lead her successfully through her rehabilitation program.

I am a 75 year old female with MS. I shuffled around and relied on a Zimmer frame for support.
Paul assessed my condition and personalised exercises to help me to walk with crutches.
He printed out daily routines to strengthen my posture and upper body. He was very encouraging, patient and kind. I now have my confidence back.

We had the pleasure of Paul from Proactive Home Physio coming to do a session for us all in September.
He had everyone getting involved, regardless of their physical disabilities and it was evident by the smile on everyone’s faces that a great time was had by all. He talked to our group about the importance of exercise and the benefits of doing just 30 minutes of activity a day. Everyone was so impressed by Paul and his understanding about their conditions, they’ve requested for him to return. He is always welcome to pop along to Brewins.

We would not hesitate to recommend Paul, who is a credit to his profession.

I was severely disabled after 2 strokes last year, at the age of 49. The community team helped me a lot until lockdown when they had to stop. Paul was recommended to continue my rehab. From the first he was cheerful, encouraging & professional, taking a keen interest in my problems. He has helped me make steady progress, is always positive and leaves me feeling hopeful that I can achieve a more independent future. I look forward to our weekly sessions and we always manage to have a laugh & he inspired me to keep practicing.

Dad was charged from hospital in a very poor condition, having not eaten very well in hospital.
Paul was very understanding of Dad’s condition and his needs and thoughtful about what he could manage. With each session we could see Dad improve his mobility and physicality.
Paul is so patient and thoughtful and we are delighted with the results. Dad looks forward to his physio sessions and we thanks Paul for all his help and support.

I engaged with Paul from Proactive Home Physio after my dad had a fall and broke his arm back in November 2021. In addition, my dad has vascular dementia along with having a stroke back in August 2020. His mobility and balance is very poor due to his illness and with being in hospital and then moving to a home for a temporary period, where initially they wanted to keep him in a bed. I needed some help to get him out and moving. I contacted Paul and he was a very positive individual and we chatted and explained what I wanted to achieve. I didn't expect my dad would walk without assistance again, but all I needed was enough so he could walk with assistance in his bedroom and to get him out of our home to a car. Paul went to the home and worked with my dad showing him how to get in and out of bed and how to raise himself in and out of a chair. Over time we were then able to get him discharged and moved back home.
We faced many challenges as he had lost his strength from being in bed too long, but Paul worked hard on repetitive exercises and to help him walk in our home with all the challenges it offered. Paul made a massive difference to my dad and my dad liked Paul. It also enabled me to learn from Paul what he was doing and then for me on the days he wasn't with us to work hard with appropriate exercises. It has been a journey but despite the hospital telling me twice that my dad is confined to bed, I can walk with him down steps and around his bedroom. We can also can walk to the car now and he gets in and out so easy compared to our first attempts. This has given my dad and myself freedom to go out, this wouldn't have been possible without Paul. Thank you so much.

Paul began giving physio to my elderly Mum back in February 2019 when she was in respite care. On returning home to us, we decided to continue with Paul as he had helped Mum gain so much confidence with her mobility and balance.
We have been so impressed with his patience, professionalism and thoughtfulness and the additional fact that he is a genuinely nice person with whom we felt happy leaving Mum in the supervision of. Paul tailor made exercise routines for Mum which were achievable yet challenging in order to help her increase confidence and mobility.
His support has enabled Mum to now tackle going up and down stairs, walk unaided without her stick and to not shuffle when moving forward. Paul's kindness and calm manner really helped Mum and although we feel she can now manage without his weekly sessions, we shall call on him if ever we feel she needs his guidance again. Highly recommended to anyone with mobility concerns or confidence issues. Thank you so much Paul.

With Paul’s help I have gradually been getting stronger and more and more confident in my own capability and the fear of losing my balancing after having three falls has reduced.
I have learnt how to negotiate stairs and how to get myself up should I have a fall getting in and out of bed. Your patience and understanding is much appreciated.

I have found the sessions incredibly useful and would thoroughly recommend Proactive Home Physio.
I have learnt balancing exercises, new techniques on gym equipment, e.g safely getting on and off machines, how to climb stairs safely and built confidence in walking heel to toe and balancing whilst walking. It has made a difference to my walking and balance. I feel I have more confidence and am less afraid of falling.

When practising standing and walking, Paul taught me to take my time standing straight before starting to move forward, this has helped me tremendously. Generally Paul taught me to take my time and think about what I was going to do.
Paul has a fantastic attitude, is friendly and encouraging. I liked the fact that I had goals which were measured each week so I could see my progress. If Physio is ever needed again, we wouldn’t hesitate to call Paul for his help.

Paul came to me recommended by a friend, and he did a brilliant job with me, and very thorough, some of the exercises were quite hard, but no pain no gain.
Thanks again Paul .👍😊

I have been using Paul Lucas for 2 months as my physio. After a long stay in hospital my mobility was restricted but with Pauls quiet approach and cheerful manner, he has pushed me to succeed for which I am very grateful. From limited mobility to using a stick he has given me the support and confidence I needed.
